Unexpected Journey Inspires Worship

Minnesota Trails 2010
Some of our Haiti prep has seemed like something from a movie.  Surreal.   For instance - who would've thought that the road to Haiti would go through Broken Bow, NE and include a whole new group of friends we didn't even know 6 months ago?!  In small ways our family is dreading the day that we have to move.  Although, we resisted moving here and don't consider this small friendly town home, we're coming to love people here.  It will be sad to say good-bye.

God's ways are astounding!  They are not our ways but SO much better!

Then we applied for the kids' passports in Arnold, NE.  Really?!  There aren't words to describe how unlikely that seemed.  This small town (google it if you'd like) in the middle of seemingly nowhere provides a little, original post office with passport services.    Inside was a complete mix of history accommodating the modern world's perks with a very nice employee to accomplish our request.  Dreamlike.

Today we get vaccines in Ord, NE (an hour from here).  It's a mobile clinic that makes it's way through all these small NE villages.  Fascinating.

God is faithfully leading us through each one.  Each pit-stop, each relationship, each unexpected twist in the road, each cloudy day, each sunny day - we see GOD.  At many twists and turns we shrug in unawareness.  Sometimes we have the courage to laugh with trust like Sarah did in the Old Testament.  Other times we've fought or grown sleepy.  BUT GOD!  He sustains us - wakes us up - speaks to us - leads us on.  His Word enlivens us to BELIEVE.  It's not about us, or Haiti, or anything less than Him.  He is revealing Himself to us in personal ways on this crazy adventure that I can't even comprehend is happening.  Bizarre.

His kindness - His thorough care - His faithfulness - His patience - His constant drawing to trust Him for EVERYTHING!  He confidently beckons, "Be still and courageously GO because I AM!"

This morning  I am in awe.  Like observing an unfinished piece of artwork with intricate detail.   I stare in amazement at the Artist.  Really, Lord?!  Wow!

I am learning over and over again (if only I'd retain it better) that the whole of discipleship is surrender to Him.  That surrender is more like a maintaining of concentration on Him.   Surrender is a resting in Him - His character - His purchased promises.   It seems a bit abstract but so absolute all at the same time.  Mysterious.  This is how it is with God.  He uses the foolish and weak things of the world to prosper His kingdom and put to shame the wisdom and strength of man.

I'm so glad that He loves us.  Without His love we are nothing.  His love is everything!  We are not entitled to anything.  But God!  He is rich in mercy and sent His Son to rescue us.  Now we can walk with Him and know that HE IS GOD.  AMAZING!

He is such a good Father - Friend - Savior - Lord.  He doesn't hold back from teaching and scourging but it is always hope-giving and fruit-bearing.  He brings righteousness and the fullness of joy at every point along this oneness-journey with Him.

We invite you to be in awe of Him with us and remember His guiding power in your ordained journey.  Really, it's like a holiday at the sea.  What satisfaction is to be had when we behold Him!

A lady God used so instrumentally in my childhood often signs her notes with - "Together on the journey".  I'll imitate her in this.

You can trust Him. He is a ROCK!

Together on the journey,

Isaiah 55:8-9

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

  2. Me too! Jesus' work in you is inspirational, fun and astounding! Go God!
